Growth tax most equitable for all citizens

To the editor,

Following several published letters relating to Rutherford County's attempt with legislative action for financial assistance, another opinion has received limited attention in this matter.

As a retired property owner of 20-plus years residence in Rutherford County, my choices initially and currently to reside here were quite different from those I have seen expressed.

The rural, agricultural, larger lot availability, small community attract many who desire the less stress experienced in more metropolitan living. Some have expressed the increasing economic and social benefits with fears of decreasing the industry associated with housing and development interest may well be expressing only concerns that benefit them financially.

It concerns me that not all residents desire the metropolitan image for this county and certainly feel that the burden for increasing needs of the county services should be borne by those who create them. If those who desire to purchase a larger home or move into this county cannot afford to pay for increasing services, maybe a limit on development should be considered.

Increasing the wheel, sales or property tax should not be placed on existing taxpayers; whereas, a growth tax system is more equitable to all citizens of this county.
