ISSUE #1: GROWTH . . . . . . . . . . . HOW DO WE PAY FOR IT?

Please Note: The Alternative Revenue Task Force decided in June 2004 to recommend an Adequate Facilities Tax rather than an Impact Fee to the County Commission. Since the Impact Fee is no longer a viable option, the RNA supports the County Commission's resolution for an Adequate Facilities Tax in order to lessen the burden of growth on the property tax payers.

WHAT ISN'T WORKING & WHY

The Private Act ProcessPrivate Act Process

Action #1 - Join RNA

Be part of this group of non-partisan citizen activists in order to influence positive changes in Rutherford County. Contact us.

Action #2 - Learn

Learn the facts about how impact fees work so that you can tell others about how they will benefit all citizens of Rutherford County.

Action #3 - Spread the Word

  • Arrange to have the RNA speak to your group or organization on why impact fees are a solution to our county budget woes.
  • Talk to your friends, neighbors, co-workers and associates about the need for Impact Fees and encourage them to contact their commissioner.
  • Follow up - ask if they've made those contacts
  • Tell others about this web site and the RNA.

Action #4 - Contact the Decision Makers

Call, visit or write your county commissioner and express your advocacy for impact fees. Tell him/her why you want them to support a resolution for impact fees.

Action #5 - Letters to the Editor

Write Letters to the Editor of the Daily News Journal, the Rutherford Tennessean and the Nashville Tennessean about the benefits of an Impact Fee.

Action #6 - Attend County Commission and Committee Meetings

  • Check our Local Government page or add your name to our Impact Fee Update email list.
  • Call the County Executive's office (898-7745) the day before the commission meeting to speak for 3 minutes about a positive aspect of impact fees.
  • Going to Committee meetings, wearing your Impact Fee Advocate button of course, will help you gain an understanding of how various commissioners approach a subject. It's also a great opportunity to just chat with them.

Action #7 - Be Visible

Ask for an IMPACT FEE ADVOCATE button and wear it in public. Explain what it means to those who ask.

Action #8 - Vote

Support and vote for the candidates of your choice who believe in the same issues that you do.
